Whenever we are looking to analyze any All-Star game we usually do so based on the starting pitchers that will represent each team. As a whole in this game we feel pitching is an extremely crucial aspect especially in the later innings. As we all know this game actually has some meaning attached to it as the winner will earn their respective league home-field advantage in the World Series.
The American League lineup is littered with Rangers and Yankees. Among the starters include Derek Jeter at shortstop, Robinson Cano at second base, Josh Hamilton in the outfield, and Mike Napoli who will be doing the starting catching for the second year in a row. Joining them as starters will be names such as Prince Fielder from the Tigers and David Ortiz from the Red Sox at DH.
The National League starting lineup features three San Francisco Giants one of which is Buster Posey who has made a very good return from a season ending in an injury last season. What should not be a surprise is that Joey Votto of the Reds makes his third All-Star appearance and that Carlos Beltran has been voted in and will be a starter as well. Of note, Ryan Braun will start for the injured Matt Kemp.
The starters for the AL are simply stacked included in them is David Price, Justin Verlander, Jered Weaver, Chris Sale, and CC Sabathia. While the National League will throw out a quality starting staff led by Matt Cain, Stephen Strasburg, and RA Dickey they simply do not compare to the arms that the AL will throw out there. The game will start with Matt Cain pitching for the National League and Justin Verelander for the American League. In the end we think the American League pitching wins out.
