Sunday February 26th will be Oscar night as the 84th annual Academy Awards will be recognizing the top achievements from the motion picture industry. The ceremony is set to begin at 7PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ABC. We will take a look at the betting odds from the most notable Oscar categories. The 2012 Oscar odds for the best picture has The Artist lined as the prohibitive 1-5 choice on the betting board. The Descendants is the second favorite in the betting at current odds of 6-1. The Help checks in at the 10-1 third choice in the wager. Longshots for best picture include the popular Moneyball starting Brad Pitt as it’s lined at 40-1 with Midnight Paris at 50-1 and the Tree of Life the longest shot on the board at 75-1 in the Oscar wagering.
We will now look at the best actor category and coming in as the second favorite for the Oscar is Jean Dujardin for his role in The Artist at the odds of 3-2. Sitting in the role as favorite to win is George Clooney at 4-9 in the betting for his role in The Descendants. Brad Pitt is in for a shot to earn an Oscar as he was nominated for his role in the baseball movie about the Oakland A’s success in his role in Moneyball. Pitt is coming in at odds for 15-1. Following Brad Pitt in the betting for Best Actor is Gary Oldman for his work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as he comes in at 25-1. The longshot in the betting for Best Actor is Demian Bichir who currently sits at 50-1 for his leading role in A Better Life.
The betting odds for Best Actress appear to be a very competitive battle. We find sitting at the top at a very slight favorite is Viola Davis for her work in The Help. Davis comes in at 5-6 on the betting board. Following in her footsteps is the popular and talented Meryl Streep for role in The Iron Lady as she is the second favorite at even 1-1 odds to win an Oscar. Michelle Williams is listed in the wagering as third favorite with odds of 15-1 for her work in My Week With Marilyn. Glen Close for her role in Albert Nooks along with Rooney Mara for The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo are both in the underdog role with identical 25-1 betting odds.
In the 2012 Best Director race we find Michel Hazanavicius for his work in The Artist as the prohibitive favorite in the betting at -500 odds. Martin Scorsese for Hugo is now the second choice of the betting public at +400 odds. Receiving action in the wagering as the third choice is Alexander Payne as director of The Descendants. Payne currently sits at +1200 odds. In the role of longshot is Terrance Malik for a Tree of Life and Woody Allen director for Midnight in Paris as the odds currently sit at 25-1 in the betting.
