The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles play the finale of their three game set tonight in Baltimore. Jon Lester gets the nod for the Red Sox while Miguel Gonzalez will start for the Orioles. Check the MLB odds at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
Boston outlasted the Orioles yesterday, winning 5-4 on the road. The never-aging John Lackey went seven strong giving up just seven hits and two earned runs. Johnny Gomes went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Today the Red Sox turn to Lester who in the month of June has an astonishing 8.44 ERA and 2.34 WHIP. In 10 2/3 innings this month, Lester has given up15 hits, 10 earned runs and 10 walks while striking out just seven. This is not the Lester we are accustomed to seeing. He has lost his last three starts including his last one in Tampa going just 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven earned runs. The Sox however are in first place and are an impressive 21-14 on the road this season.
The Orioles send Miguel Gonzalez to the mound tonight to get them back in the win column. He is 4-2 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.22 WHIP this season. He has won his last two starts, going 14 innings and giving up nine hits and two earned runs combined while striking out 12. The Birds are currently in second place in the East and are 19-15 at home this season.
I will side with the over in this game as both pitchers have struggled recently and the games have been relatively high scoring in this series at the sportsbook.
