The Boston Red Sox square off with the Seattle Mariners in Seattle for the second of a three game set. Allen Webster gets the nod for Boston while Hisashi Iwakuma gets the nod for the Mariners. MLB odds are posted at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
The Red Sox enter having won seven of their last ten games. They defeated Tampa in 14 innings yesterday 10-8 behind a David Nava go ahead single in the 14th inning. They are 4/12 games in front of the Orioles and Rays and are 23-20 outside of Fenway Park this year. It has been an impressive season so far, and they ask Webster to continue the trend tonight. In Lester’s last start he surrendered seven hits, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking three. However in his last two road starts he has given up 13 hits and nine earned runs in New York and Chicago, receiving losses in both matchups.
After yesterday’s loss, Seattle is now 21-22 at home this year. Hisashi Iwakuma comes in with a 3-3 record, 2.60 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. He has lost two out of his last three decisions including his last start in Detroit where he surrendered ten hits and gave up four earned runs. His last home start against the Yankees he gave up five runs on six hits and surrendering three walks. The Mariners are 9.5 games out of first place in the AL west and have won five of their last ten games.
I am going with the Red Sox in this matchup. John Lester has proven himself and the Sox have come up surprisingly big on the road this season but first check out the sports odds.
