Bucknell, the popular upset in the tournament, take on the professional Cinderella’s in Butler. Get NCAA Tournament odds at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
Butler (28-5) finished tied for third in the Atlantic 10, finishing behind just Saint Louis and VCU. The Bulldogs are extremely popular for their two back-to-back National Championship game runs that each ended in losses. The more heartbreaking of the two came against Duke when Gordon Hayward’s half court heave just missed, and resulted in a Butler loss and another Championship for the Dukies and Coach K. Butler beat Dayton and then La Salle in the quarterfinals in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. In the semi-finals the eventual champions and regular season champs, Saint Louis, ousted Butler.
The Bucknell Bison (28-5) ran through the Patriot League by only losing two games all season. The Patriot was one of the minority conferences that had their top four teams in the conference semi-finals. Bucknell only lost five games all season with one of them coming against Missouri, a tournament team. Some might remember Bucknell after their upset win over Kansas in the first round of the tournament in 2005. This is Bucknell’s sixth appearance in the Big Dance.
Butler is 18-13-1 against the spread this season and 8-4 against non-conference opponents. Bucknell is just 2-4 against the spread, and 1-0 in non-conference games.
Many people believe that Bucknell will come away with the upset in this game, but it hard for me to count out the Butler Bulldogs who make runs in March like it is their job. Brad Stevens is too good when it comes to Tournament games. Butler will move on at the sportsbooks.
