The Ohio Bobcats will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the sweet sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night. The odds used from our pick was choosen from Top Bet sportsbook.
It is definitely surprising that Ohio is one of the teams left in the tournament. They are the lowest remaining seed at a #13 seed. Ohio came off a MAC Tournament championship and rode that momentum in wins over Michigan in their first round game by 5 and beat South Florida in a tough game 62-56 in the round of 32. During the regular season this team was known for their offense, but it has been their defense that has carried them as they have just allowed an average of 62 points per game thus far. Although the total points may not have been there vs. South Florida they were impressive from 3-point land shooting 9 of 18 as a team en route to the win. They were also aided by 19 free throws made and led by the stellar play of Walter Offutt who led the Bobcats with 21 points including several key buckets down the stretch.
North Carolina crushed Vermont in the first round and did the same to Creighton in the round of 32. Creighton came into the game thought of as a potent offensive team, but North Carolina was able to handle them pretty handedly. They beat the Blue Jays 87-73, but the game did have one serious consequence. Point guard Kendall Marshall fractured his wrist after falling to the floor hard in the second half. He led the Tar Heels with 18 points and 11 assists and if he can’t play or is limited it could hurt Carolina who lacks depth at the point guard spot. Harrison Barnes added 17 for the Heels and John Henson came back from injury with a solid 13 points as well.
Although the loss of Marshall will be significant eventually we think that UNC can still beat Ohio without him. The only thing to really wonder about here is a backdoor cover, but we like UNC anyway because of Ohio’s lack of scoring ability thus far in the tournament games they have played so bet the Tar Heels at best online sportsbooks.
