Similar to UCONN last season the Louisville Cardinals have ridden their Big East Tournament Championship all the way to the Final Four and a game with arch rival Kentucky. The Cardinals have now won 8 straight and their most recent win cam after a comeback win over the Florida Gators by a score of 72-68. The Cardinals feature an adequate offensive attack, but their defense came up big vs. Florida just like it did all season for the Cardinals. The second half run by Louisville was speared by the fact that they only let up 3 points total in the final eight minutes of the game. Louisville forced 14 Florida turnovers and thus was able to put up 12 more shots overall in the end. Russ Smith led Louisville with 19 points, and Chane Behanan also contributed greatly with 17 points.
I don’t know if Kentucky’s defeat at the hands of Vanderbilt in the SEC Championship was a wake up call, but the Wildcats have pounded four consecutive opponents on the way to the Final Four. UK humbled Baylor 83-70 in a game that was nowhere near as the final score as the offense did as it has all season long and that’s score points aplenty. Lost in all the scoring is the fact that UK has one of the best defenses in the country although this unit hasn’t played up to their numbers and really haven’t needed to with all the scoring. Kentucky didn’t need much D against Baylor with a blistering 53.3% from the field. The Wildcats were 4 of 9 from long range and made a living at the charity stripe with a 30 of 44 performance. The Bears connected on just 39% from the floor but did grab 16 offensive rebounds and 19 more shots to no avail. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 19 points with Anthony Davis right on his heels with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Doron Lamb added 14 points while Terrence Jones posted 12 points, 9 pulls and 6 assists.
The way Kentucky is playing I don’t think a double digit victory is out of the question although I personally wouldn’t play them with the huge number on them now. I think the Cardinals have too much talent and are well coached to totally disregard so we think the pick here is Louisville and the points to wager at best sports books.
