The sweet sixteen kicks of tonight with one of the most anticipated matchups as the Louisville Cardinals vs. the top seed Michigan St. Spartans. Check out all of the NCAA Tournament odds from our friends at Top Bet sportsbook.
Michigan State entered the tourney as the 4th #1 seed and has this far lived up to the lofty ranking. In their opening game they dispatched LIU Brooklyn and then defeated St. Louis behind 19 from Keith Appling and a strong game from Draymond Green who had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Brandon Wood and Derrick Nix also scored in double figures with 10 each. As a team vs. St. Louis the Spartans shot about 54% from the field including 40% from three point land. This season this far the Spartans are 5-2 in neutral site games overall and 8-5 vs. teams ranked in the top 25. These are impressive marks considering Tom Izzo’s squad played the toughest schedule in the nation this season. Although this team did not have a lot of preseason aspirations and considering they were not even ranked in the preseason top 25 it is a bit of a surprise from that perspective that the Spartans are just two wins away from a birth in the final four.
The season for the Louisville Cardinals has been marred by a bit of inconsistency, but the Cardinals are peaking and playing well at the right time. Louisville beat Davidson in the first round and held on to defeat very good New Mexico team in their second game to advance to the second weekend of play. In the game vs. New Mexico Louisville was led by Russ Smith who scored 17 points while Chane Behanan and Kyle Kuric added 10 points each. Louisville was solid as a team from the three point line shooting at an impressive 46.7% clip. Thus far the Cardinals are a stellar 6-0 in neutral site games, 305 vs. teams in the top 25 having played the 8th toughest schedule in the country. Of note, the Cardinals are on a similar role that UCONN went on last year when the Huskies propelled a Big East Tourney championship into a final four birth and a national championship.
Michigan St. is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 8-3 ATS following a win. However they are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 as a neutral site favorite. Louisville is 6-0 ATS in their last 6. They are a surprising 0-6 ATS however in their last 6 vs. Big Ten teams. They are however a strong 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall as an underdog so bet Louisville an before you do read sportsbook reviews.
