The ALDS kicks off on Saturday night with a match up between the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park. All odds for this game can be found at Bovada sportsbook.
The Oakland Athletics have truly come out of nowhere and surprised all of baseball with their great play. They were 13 games behind the Rangers at the end of June and have surged to the point where they are now the American League West division champions. In overtaking the Rangers on the last day of the season they locked up home field advantage for the ALDS as well. In game one in Detroit tonight they will start Jarrod Parker. Parker is the first of an all rookie starting rotation that will be featured in this series. In 181 innings of work Parker is pitching to 3.47 ERA.
For much of the season it did not look as though Detroit would have enough to make a playoff run. They ended up meeting the expectations however and met their preseason hype and won the National League Central division in the last week of the regular season. They are led by Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera at the plate and on the mound by ace Justin Verlander who may be the best pitcher in all of baseball. Verlander will get the ball tonight and he’s coming off a great last month of the season and will look to parlay that into postseason success.
Big favorites are tough to take, especially in the playoffs when all of the teams are quality. Verlander is hard to pick against, but as a value play we will lean towards Oakland as prohibitive moneyline underdogs at online sportsbooks.
