The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians play the last game of their weekend series tonight in Detroit. Justin Masterson gets the nod for Cleveland while Jose Alvarez will pitch for Detroit. Check the MLB odds at Bovada sportsbook.
The Tigers go for the sweep today as they have won the first two games 7-5 and 6-4. They turn to rookie Jose Alvarez who was just called up from Triple A Toledo, because Anibal Sanchez has shoulder stiffness. The Tigers say it is not a serious problem and he should make his next scheduled start. In the minors this season, Alvarez is 5-4 with a 2.42 ERA and has struck out 76 batters while walking only 15 in 74 1/3 innings. As a team the Tigers have won four out of their last five games, and eight out of their last eleven home games. They are currently four games in front of the Indians for first place in the AL Central.
With the loss yesterday, the Indians have now lost six in a row, including their last 10 games on the road. They are 12-19 outside of Progressive Field however still maintain a two game lead in front of Minnesota for second place in the AL Central. Justin Masterson enters with an 8-4 record to go with a 3.57 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. He has struck out 88 batters in 88 1/3 innings this year with only 34 walks. In his last two road starts however it has not been pretty. Against New York on Tuesday he went 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs. In Boston on May 24th he allowed five runs on six hits in only six innings.
I don’t trust Masterson or the Indians on the road so go with the rookie and Detroit tonight at www.sportsbookroom.com.
