Justin Verlander hasn’t quite been the ace we’re used to seeing as he has posted an 8-5 record, 3.77 ERA and 1.40 WHIP this season. In his last start in Tampa he tossed eight innings, giving up nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four. On the road, he has pitched 54 2/3 innings with a 3.46 ERA. This will be his third straight start against an AL East opponent, however his first against the Blue Jays this season. He has gone at least seven innings in his last three road starts.
The Blue Jays have cooled off since they started their 12 game winning streak a few weeks ago. They are in last place in the East, nine back of the first place Red Sox and have won just four of their last ten games. Rogers enters with a 3-3 record, 3.12 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. In his last start in Boston, he tossed six innings and did not surrender a run while giving up six hits. He pitched once against the Tigers this year giving up seven hits and two runs in just four innings of work.
