In another highly anticipated matchup in the Sweet 16, Duke and Michigan State will battle for the right to play in their Regional Final against the winner of Louisville/Oregon. Get NCAA Tournament odds at Bovada sportsbook.
Duke (29-5) have been pretty impressive with Ryan Kelly in the lineup this season. They have lost just one game with him, which occurred in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal against the Maryland Terrapins, who also beat Duke without Kelly. Other Duke losses came against Virginia and a 27-point beat down in Miami. The other loss was on the road against in-state rival, North Carolina State. Duke was plenty of good enough to get a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. In the first round, Duke beat Albany by 12, just a year after losing to 15-seed Lehigh in the Round of 64. The Blue Devils went on to beat Creighton pretty handily by 16.
Michigan State (27-8) is coached by Tom Izzo and this is what they do. They always seem to really hit their stride when the tournaments are beginning. The Spartans lost in the Big Ten tournament to Ohio State, the eventual champions. They received a 3-seed from the committee and drew Valpo in the Round of 64. They beat them by 11 and then destroyed Memphis by 22 to earn the right to play Duke.
Duke is 18-16 against the spread this season and 1-1 in the tournament. MSU is 14-16-2 ATS and 2-0 in the tournament.
I think the Spartans will take down Duke in this one as long as Appling is healthy. I believe Michigan State matches up pretty well down low with Duke and duel with them in the backcourt at the sportsbook.
