This will be the first meeting between these two college football programs. Florida Atlantic had a difficult test in week one as they must travel into Miami and they get clobbered. East Carolina will pose an easier test for the FAU offense as they face an East Carolina defense that has been suspect in recent seasons. In the 2012 the Pirates allowed 431 yards of offense to their opponents with 276 yards passing and 155 coming from their run game. Opponents tallied 32 points a game on the Pirates. Florida Atlantic has eight starters back to their offense and should be generate enough offense against this East Carolina defense. The Pirates also return eight starters to an offense that put up 273 yards passing and 408 yards per game. They opened up against new FBS club the Old Dominion Monarchs and came away with a 52-38 victory as the Pirates were able to generate 31 second half points. At issue in that contest was that ECU allowed 460 yards of offense to Old Dominion who played football in the FCS last year. The Monarchs QB Heinicke passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns. Under center for the Pirates is junior quarterback Shane Carden who in the opener against Old Dominion was able to complete 46 of 54 passes for 447 yards and five touchdowns. The Florida Atlantic defense should pose little problem for the high octane offense of East Carolina. FAU in 2012 allowed 405 yards of offense with teams running for nearly five yard a carry against them. A high scoring game tonight.
