The San Diego Chargers will break in new head coach Mike McCoy who has no head coaching experience. He inherited a 7-9 team coached by Norv Turner that struggled for offense. In 2012 the Chargers pushed across just 22 points a game. What has happened to San Diego is the fact the club has saw turnover with their playmakers but the problem is that they could not replace players to perform at the lever of the departing personnel. The offensive line was poor last season as Phillip Rivers was sacked 49 times. They add former Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt and hired him as the team’s offensive coordinator. The Chargers will be without rookie linebacker Manti Te’o is out with an injury. The Houston Texans have made the playoffs the past two seasons once they hired Wade Phillips as the team’s defensive coordinator. The team is healthy entering the season and that is key because the team has good talent on both sides of the football. Houston went 12-4 during the regular season in 2012. They have had good point spread success on the road laying points a season ago. Houston has weapons in the passing game in Andre Johnson and rookie DeAndre Hopkins taken out of Clemson in the first round. Running back Arian Foster is a solid back to help keep opposing defenses off balance. The difference here is the fact the Texans has a more balanced attack while the Chargers lack of run game leaves Rivers having to fend off blitzes and he takes way too many hits.
