Indiana (29-6) has been talked about all season long as one of the best teams in the country and went into this year as the preseason number one. Indiana was able to live up to the hype by winning the regular season title in the best conference in college basketball, the Big Ten. They were not able to get to the Conference Tournament Championship but still did enough this season to get a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers walked past James Madison in the first round and then almost were ousted by Khalif Wyatt and the Temple Owls in the Round of 32. Wyatt torched them for 31 points but Victor Oladipo secured the win with a huge three pointer with less than 20 seconds left.
Syracuse (28-9) has been up and down this season. They were a top ten team for most of the season before dropping almost out of the top 20. They were able to get a 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange absolutely destroyed Montana in the Round of 64 and then escaped California by six after the Golden Bears beat UNLV. The Orange are led by Michael Carter-Williams, who’s decision-making can be questioned at some points during games. Southerland is also a huge part of the offense with the ability to play inside but he loves to play on the perimeter because of his ability to shoot the long ball.
Indiana is 17-16 against the spread and 0-2 in the Tournament. The Orange are 18-15 ATS and 1-1 in the Tournament.
Syracuse’s 2-3 zone is incredible but Indiana has the athleticism and ability to bounce in and out of the zone and get some buckets. They can also shoot the three very effectively, which would counteract the zone. Indiana is soft in the middle and Syracuse though lacking size make up for it in leaping ability so the Orange gets the cover at best sportsbooks online.
