The Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays play the second of their three game set tonight in Tampa. Jeremy Guthrie will start for the Royals while Alex Cobb gets the nod for Tampa. MLB odds are at Bovada sportsbook.
The Royals won the first game of the series yesterday 7-2 behind Bill y Butler’s 2-4, three RBI night. Leo Mendoza also went six strong giving up just two earned runs in his quality start. Tonight, the Royals will send Guthrie to the mound who enters 7-3 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Guthrie has won his last two starts, both at home, against the Tigers and Twins. Combined in those outings, he gave up 12 hits and three earned runs while striking out four, all of which came against the Twins. In his last road start in St. Louis, Jeremy surrendered eight hits and two earned runs while striking out six in the process. The Royals are in third place in the AL Central and are 15-17 on the road this season.
The Rays hope to right the ship with Alex Cobb tonight who enters with a 6-2 record and 2.95 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Cobb was not so impressive in his last home start against the Red Sox however, only lasting four innings giving up seven hits and six earned runs. He did beat the Yankees three starts ago however, going eight strong and only surrendering two earned runs. The Rays, although in fourth place, are only five back of the first place Red Sox. They have lost three in a row and are 20-15 at Tropicana Field this year.
I’ll go with the Rays as they hope for some revenge tonight against a less superior team at www.sportsbookroom.com.
