Never pick against Butler in the month of March. Butler will take on 3-seed Marquette in the Round of 32 and the winner will advance to the Sweet 16 to play the winner of #2 Miami-#7 Illinois. Check out the March Madness odds at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
Marquette (24-8) advanced in extremely dramatic fashion. The Golden Eagles were up against the wall in the first round against 14-seed Davidson. Davidson led for much of the game and with less than 10 seconds left, they turned over the ball to Marquette. Vander Blue attacked and won the game with one second left, much like he did earlier this season. With those last second heroics, Marquette is just one game away from making the East Regional semi-final.
Butler (27-8) is the ultimate Cinderella. The Bulldogs did not even make the tournament last season but in both of the two years before, Butler advanced all the way to the National Championship, only to lose twice (Duke, UCONN). Many people picked Bucknell as this season’s Butler. But first, they actually had to beat Butler. Butler erased a late 7-point deficit and won by double digits in the Round of 64. I like Butler’s chances when it comes to Marquette and coach Brad Stevens has been before and knows what to do in order to advance.
Marquette is 13-15 against the spread but did not cover the spread in the Round of 64 with their one-point win over Davidson. Butler is 19-13-1 ATS this year and is 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament after their win against Bucknell.
I felt like I was in the minority when picking Butler over Bucknell the round before and I like Butler’s chances once again. Marquette looked very sluggish and out of it against Davidson, but against a more experienced team, the Golden Eagles won’t have a chance to pull out a win at best sports books.
