The NFL odds from this week one exhibition have the Miami Dolphins a -3 point favorite with the total in the game coming in at 32 ½ points. A money line wager on the Dolphins will bring back -150 odds and the return on the underdog Dallas Cowboys is +130 odds for an outright win on Sunday.
Head coach Jason Garrett has announced early this week that his number one quarterback Tony Romo would be held out of the first preseason game. The team has an experienced backup in Kyle Orton but two first year players in Nick Stephens and Alex Tanney to back up Orton. The focus will be on the running game for Dallas as they bring in Bill Callahan to run the offense for the Cowboys. Callahan was previously an offensive lineman coach for the Jets and he has head coaching experience with the Oakland Raiders of the NFL and the Nebraska Cornhuskers in college football. The Cowboys did a poor job of running the football the past seasons and in the 2012 campaign Dallas ranked 31st and second last in the league in rushing. The Cowboys have done a poor job on the offensive line and that’s an area that Callahan will look to mend in order to take some of the load off the Dallas quarterbacks. Miami struggled through a 7-9 season in 2012 and it marked the fourth consecutive year for the franchise to finish out of the playoffs and with a record under .500. They try to jump start their offense this season by adding Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller to their passing attack as they look to improve from an 18 point per game average from a year ago.
With our NFL preseason pick for Sunday Night Football we will play on the Dallas Cowboys +3 points against the Miami Dolphins. Look for Dallas to control the line of scrimmage in week one here as they play for new offensive and defensive coordinators and look to set a positive tone for the season.
