The Miami Heat welcomes the San Antonio Spurs to South Beach for game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals tonight. Check the NBA odds at Bovada sportsbook.
San Antonio has had nine days of rest leading up to tonight’s contest after they swept the Memphis Grizzlies. How much this affects them remains to be seen, but you have to assume under future hall of fame coach Greg Popovich they will mentally be ready to go. When you look at this series you must look at matchups, which makes Tony Parker the X-factor.
Miami has no true point guard to defend him. They will throw a variation of Wade, Chalmers and Cole at him with LeBron possibly the shutdown guy in the fourth quarter. However Parker, in the Spurs high screen and role offense, has proven he’s an effective anchor that makes it all work. His last 2 games against the Grizzlies, the team with the defensive player of the year, he had 37 and 26 point nights shooting over 50 percent. The game before that he went 6 for 20 but dished out 18 assists. If Miami can prove they can limit Parker in game 1, they will have a much easier series. For Miami, they must get help outside of the king.
When Wade and Bosh struggle like they did against Indiana, the Heat become the old Cavaliers. Those two must show up, especially because the Spurs have Kawhi Leonard who has the potential to slow down LeBron with his 6 foot 7 inch frame.
The Spurs are 6-1 ATS on the road in the playoffs, while the Heat are surprisingly 4-5 ATS at home. Remember Miami dropped game 1 against both Chicago and Indiana.
