Saturday will be the third day in a row that the Marlins and the Phillies will square off in Philly. After Saturday, the two will play another on Sunday. Get MLB odds at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
The Marlins (8-22) are not having a great year by any stretch of the imagination and have lost three games in a row after their loss on Friday. They have lost both games against the Phillies in this series by a combined score of 11-3. Donovan Solano is the leading Marlin at the plate and is averaging just .278. No player who gets a lot of playing time is averaging more than that. Justin Ruggiano has four home runs and 12 RBI’s, both lead the Marlins. Jose Fernandez will make start number six for Miami and is 0-2 in those five starts.
The Phillies (14-16) could be kicking their game into gear right now as they have won five of their last seven and, of course, their last two against the Marlins. Chase Utley is leading the Phillies in some major hitting categories with six home runs and 21 RBI’s. Cole Hamels, who started on Opening Day for Philadelphia, is just 1-3 in his six starts. Hamels will make his seventh start on Saturday against Miami.
The Marlins are 16-14 against the spread and the Phillies are 14-16 ATS.
I am picking the Phillies. Philadelphia isn’t good, but the Marlins are even worse. I still think the Phillies have some real pieces that could still make a playoff run but that remains to be seen. They have been playing a lot better lately and like a team that could definitely see themselves in the post season at best online sportsbooks.
