San Diego has not started the season off that great and the next month will probably decide the fate of their season. They are already 9 games below the .500 mark in a division where the Dodgers are off to a blistering start. That is not to mention the monster that is the San Francisco Giants starting pitching staff who is looming as well. The story is the same as in year’s past for the Padres in that they lack that offensive punch that left when Adrian Gonzalez left in free agency.
If this team wants to win, it will have to be led by its pitching staff. Tonight in the series opener they will send Cory Luebke to the mound. Luebke is off to a great start this season as evident by his microscopic 0.89 ERA in three starts so for this season.
The San Francisco Giants are off to an average start and haven’t really hit their stride as shown by their 10-9 record this far. In their last game they rallied to beat the Reds by a score of 6-5. Ryan Vogelsong earned the win in that one going six innings and allowing 4 runs. Angel Pagan was the hero for the offense as he hit a three-run homerun to end a seven game losing streak that the Giants had in Cincinnati.
Leubke will try and further stamp his status as the ace of the staff for the Padres. San Fran will counter with Eric Hacker who is making the first start of his career. This is why we like the home underdogs tonight and Luebke to continue doing his thing with the pick at best online sportsbooks.
