The Philadelphia Phillies travel to St. Louis for game one of their series with the Cardinals on Thursday night. Get the MLB odds at Just Bet sportsbook.
The Cardinals have played good baseball overall this season and currently hold just a ½ game lead on the Reds for first place in the NL Central. They are a solid 12-8 at home this season. As a team the Cardinals are hitting .277 which is definitely solid and as of now they haven’t felt the loss of Pujols as much as anticipated. Jake Westbrook will get the start for the Cardinals and he has had a solid season thus far. He has a 2.41 ERA in 52 innings pitched.
Although the Phillies have been playing better as of late they are still in last place in the division. Carlos Ruiz has led the offense thus far hitting .357, but he has little help from anyone on a team that was supposed to have a big time offense. Joe Blanton will get the start tonight for the Phillies and although he has pitched well overall he is coming off of his worst outing of the season. Blanton’s ERA despite getting bombed is last time out is still a respectable 3.74.
St. Louis is 8-2 in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record, 2-5 in their last seven games against a right handed starter, and 6-2 in Westbrook’s last eight starts against the N.L. East. Philadelphia is 2-5 in the last seven meetings of these two.
This is another game where do not particularly like either pitcher and the matchup they face tonight. This means we will take the over and hope for a lot of runs at best online sportsbooks.
