The Tampa Bay Rays and AL East rival the New York Yankees battle in the series rubber match. All MLB odds can be found at Bovada sportsbook.
Tampa Bay was one of the hottest teams in the American League East over the past few weeks but things have slowed a bit with the Rays dropping three in a row before a 4-1 victory on Wednesday. Neither the hitting or pitching have been consistent during this stretch before both units combined to rally past the Yanks. Starter Jeff Niemann kept the Rays alive with the one run allowed on six hits and a walk with five K’s in six innings of work. Tampa Bay looks to left hander David Price to get the win Thursday and solidify their grip on first in the AL East. Price has a good shot if he can match his last outing when he beat Oakland with one run allowed in eight innings while whiffing 12.
The Yankees looked as if they were poised to go on a hot streak as winners in three of four before Wednesday’s ninth inning meltdown cost them a game in the standings.
David Robertson was the loser with four runs allowed on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. The Yankees turn to ace CC Sabathia to pick up his fifth consecutive victory. Sabathia has won four straight starts and has gone eight innings in his last three with eight runs allowed combined.
This is obviously a pitching matchup that people dream about and it is relatively even on both sides. This is why we like the Rays in this one over the Yankees with the plus odds they have at best sportsbooks online.
