The Detroit Tigers will host the New York Yankees tonight at Comerica Park for game one of their weekend series. All MLB odds can be found at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
The Tigers thus far have struggled to meet their preseason hype and will have some work to do to get back in the playoff hunt. They are just 11-12 at home this season which is a mark that is indicative of a mediocre team. The offense led by Austin Jackson, Prince Fielder, and Miguel Cabrera have been good all season, but the pitching staff has let them down at times. Tonight that staff will send Casey Crosby to the hill to face the Yankees. Crosby is actually making his first start in the Major Leagues after being called up from Triple A.
The Yankees have not hit their stride yet, but are still lurking just 1.5 games in back of the division leaders in the AL East. Derek Jeter continues to sparkle early on in the season with an average of .336. The pitching staff has been average as a whole and that includes ace CC Sabathia who has lost 2 of his last 3 starts and takes the hill tonight. He is pitching to a 3.66 ERA thus far this season.
Detroit is 1-8 in their last nine games as a home underdog, 0-9 in their last nine games against a left handed starter, and 0-6 in their last six home games following a road trip of seven days or more. New York is 4-1 in their last five road games against a team with a losing record, 6-2 in their last eight games overall, and 36-16 in Sabathia’s last 52 road games as a favorite. New York is 1-4 in their last five games in Detroit.
The Yankees usually have a tough time against pitchers they have never seen before, but we think they will get into that Detroit bullpen early. We like the over in this one as we expect the Tigers lineup to hold their own against Sabathia as well at online sportsbooks.
