AL East rivals the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will square off tonight in game 2 of their weekend series in Boston. All MLB odds can be found at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
The Red Sox did not get off to the start they were hoping for as they dropped game one of the series last night by a score of 7-4. The Red Sox offense could only muster 4 hits total on the night which did not help Jon Lester who struggled mightily on the mound in allowing 7 earned runs. Josh Beckett has won his last two starts and takes the mound for the Sox. He has had an average season so far, amassing a 4.38 ERA for the season.
The Rays took care of business yesterday as the young teams started off another series with a win. Matt Joyce sparked the offense with a grand slam, and Carlos Pena and Elliot Johnson also homered in the game as well. The Rays will send ace David Price to the hill tonight to counter Beckett. Price has lost 2 of his last 3 starts, but still has a very low 2.88 ERA in 59 innings of work.
Boston is 7-2 in their last nine games as a favorite, 5-2 in their last seven home games against a left handed starter, and 11-4 in Beckett’s last 15 home starts. Tampa Bay is 7-2 in their last nine games against the A.L. East, 18-7 in their last 25 games against a right handed starter, and 7-3 in Price’s last 10 road starts. Boston is 5-1 in Beckett’s last six home starts against Tampa Bay.
When Price is pitching and the Rays are underdogs it is hard not to take them so we are going to do exactly that tonight but prior to wagering check sports odds.
