The Red Sox, fresh off of a sweep at the hands of the Nationals, travel south to take on the Marlins for the start of a 3-game set. Major League Baseball odds are posted at Top Bet sportsbook.
The Marlins were swept also this weekend by in state rival the Tampa Bay Rays. In yesterday’s game they could only scratch out two runs. Logan Morrison scored a run and had an RBI an inning later to play a role in both runs. Josh Johnson will take the hill tonight as the power righty has a record of 3-4 on the season so far. Johnson has been looking better lately after struggling a bit early on as he came back from a serious injury. Overall he is pitching to a 4.56 ERA and will be looking to get the Marlins off to a good start in this important series for both clubs.
The Red Sox lost a heartbreaker to the Nationals yesterday to complete that aforementioned sweep on Sunday afternoon. The Boston bats did not do enough vs. Edwin Jackson and they ended up falling when the Nats scored a run in the 9th and then closed the game out successfully. The Sox will counter with former Marlin Josh Beckett. Beckett was a former World Series MVP for the Marlins back in 2003. He is actually 0-2 vs. the Marlins in Flrida in his career. Overall Beckett has been average to below average this season pitching to a 4.04 ERA and compiling a 4-6 record.
We like what we have seen from Beckett lately and we think he is finding his all-star type stuff again. Plus you would have to think he is motivated to get a win vs. his old club. We like the Red Sox as a small road moneyline favorite in this one at the sportsbook.
