In what has been a down year overall for the Pac-12, Mike Montgomery’s Cal squad is just one of two teams from the conference in the field of 68. Cal had an average 11-4 non-conference record this season, but did play some good teams and also some neutral site games which the committee probably heavily considered when making them an at-large team. The Golden Bears were led by Alan Crabbe who averaged over 15 points per game. The Bears also have other solid contributors who averaged double digit point per game and those players are Jorge Gutierrez, Justin Cobbs, and Harper Kemp. The team as a whole is shooting a very high 47.9 % as a team and allows just over 60 points per game. They are most recently coming off of a poor showing in the Pac-12 tournament in which they suffered a second round loss to Colorado who would eventually win the Pac-12 tournament.
South Florida on the other hand came out of nowhere and Stan Heath’s club deserves a lot of credit for having a stellar year in a tough Big East Conference. The rare thing about South Florida is that they actually struggled during the non-conference with just an 8-7 record, but turned it on during Big East play with a record of 13-5. The sloppy non-conference is probably why they find themselves in a play-in type game. To say that USF wins with defense is an understatement. They score less than 60 points per game on average, but the good news for them is that they only allow right around 57 a game and have a reputation for being one of the best defensive teams in the land.
California is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 conference games, but just 2-5 in their last 7 games ATS vs. Big East teams. An important note as well is that South Florida is 6-2 in their last 8 games ATS following a spread loss.
Based on the past performance of these two teams from a scoring perspective it may be worth looking into the under which is right now set at a total of 115 points. Prior to betting the under tonight read up on the best sportsbook reviews.
