Following their win in Super Bowl 2010 the New Orleans Saints have made the playoffs in the two seasons following the NFL title. They concluded the 2011 regular season with a record of 13-3. Unfortunately a 13-3 regular season was only good for an NFC Wildcard playoff berth and the number three seed behind the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers. After pounding the Detroit Lions 45-28 at home as a -10 ½ point betting favorite in the NFC Wildcard game the Saints went on the road and fell 36-32 to the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC Divisional Round playoff as a -3 point favorite. The loss was devastating as the Packers fell to the New York Giants meaning the Saints squandered a shot for home field advantage in the NFC Championship game against the New York Giants. The offseason for New Orleans has been a firestorm of controversy following Bounty Gate. Player and assistant coaching suspensions will impact the team but no loss could be great than that of head coach Sean Payton who will serve a one year suspension from the team and cannot come in contact with any player or coach during this penalty phase.
The New Orleans Saints NFL regular season win total is currently lined at 10 wins. In the betting the under 10 wins is currently favored at -150 odds with the over 10 wins returning +120 underdog odds. The lines used for the Saints season win total came courtesy of Oddsmaker sportsbook.
The New Orleans Saint scheduled in 2012 will find the club facing off with the AFC West and the difficult NFC East this year. As a first place finisher in the NFC north in 2011 the club will have to battle the first place finisher from the NFC North in Green Bay as well as NFC west first place San Francisco. Personnel wise the New Orleans Saints are stacked as they lock up Drew Brees in the offseason with a long term contract and his top four receiving targets all come back. The top four running backs in the Saints rotation all return in 2012. New Orleans find fortune with new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on the staff as his track history is solid in running a defense. The betting pick for the Saints season win total will be over ten wins. Backing out cause for the over is the fact the New Orleans Saints suffered very little turnover on the offensive side of the football which should help with the loss of Sean Payton but prior to betting pick up sportsbook promotion codes.
