NFL 2012 Oakland Raiders Season Win Total Projected Pick

The 2011 Oakland Raiders concluded their regular season play with an 8-8 record and failed to make the playoffs for the 9th straight season. With the passing of Al Davis during the season the Raiders signed Reggie McKenzie as the team’s general manager. Head coach Hue Jackson was fired and was replaced by Dennis Allen. In 2011 Allen served as the defensive coordinator who helped turnaround the Denver Broncos into a playoff team despite a starting quarterback in Tim Tebow who couldn’t sustain drives with a completion percentage under 50%.

The team will need to restore discipline if it is to have any success on the field. The past nine seasons of mediocrity can be attributed to the team’s foolish penalties on the field. In 2011 the Oakland Raiders were the most penalized team in the NFL with 163 penalties which amounts to over ten per game. The Raiders offense saw some improvement last year as the club averaged 22.4 points per game ranking 16th in the league and their 379 offensive yards per game was good enough to finish ninth in the league in total offense. Oakland made a long term commitment to Carson Palmer as the club traded for the holdout quarterback from the Cincinnati Bengals. Oakland threw Palmer right into the fire starting the veteran with little time with his new team. As a result Palmer completed 60.7% of his passes for 2753 yards with 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Running back Darren McFadden suffered through an injury plagued season in 2011 as he produced 614 rushing yards in limited duty for a 5.4 yards per rush average. A sleeper 5th round draft pick could be wide receiver Juron Criner who had a good college career with the Arizona Wildcats. Oakland needs to be better defensively. The club allowed 27 points a game which was 29th worst in pro football. They continued their problems with rush defense as the club allowed 5.1 yards per rush against average against Oakland a year ago which was 32nd and worst in the NFL. The Raiders have the potential for a good offense but for this club to become a playoff potential team work will need to done defensively. Oakland still has work to do on the defensive side of the ball talent wise making the play under the total of 7 wins at the sportsbook.
