Notre Dame and Iowa State make up one of the more intriguing and talked about matchups in this round of 64. Pick up NCAA Tournament odds at Bovada sportsbook.
Notre Dame (25-9) very much could have deserved a better seed than seventh but that should not change how they play. Notre Dame has won some big games in that tough Big East schedule like Cincinnati, twice, Louisville in 5OT’s, Villanova, Pittsburgh and Marquette. The Fighting Irish struggled at times during the season but that is what happens when playing in a conference like the Big East, with a lot of good teams from the top to the bottom. Notre Dame’s scoring comes from all different types of places, from inside to their guards. ND has three players that average in the double digits, Grant, Cooley and Atkins.
Iowa State (22-11) is a surprise this season. But they built a fortress of a home court and absolutely refused to lose there. They dropped just one game at home to Kansas in overtime, which was very winnable and beat Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Baylor. They finished tied for fourth in the Big 12 and beat Oklahoma in their first game. In the semi-final the Cyclones were beat up by Kansas, the eventual champions, by 15 points.
Notre Dame is 16-15 against the spread this season and an impressive 6-2 ATS after losses. Iowa State is 15-13 ATS and 6-4 after losses. Both are pretty solid against the spread, which will make for an interesting showdown, both in betting and outright.
I have flip-flopped back and forth while trying to pick a winner and I am going to go with Notre Dame in this one. Iowa State relied so much on their home court and I don’t know how they will fare on a neutral floor so before taking Notre Dame check the sports odds.
