The Pirates head to Cincinnati to take on the Reds tonight for game two of their series. Mat Latos and Charlie Morton are the scheduled starters. View MLB odds at Top Bet sportsbook.
Cincinnati won a close battle yesterday against their division foe, 4-1. Mike Leake went seven strong giving up just six hits and an earned run while striking out three. They turn to Latos tonight who enters with a perfect 6-0 record, 2.87 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. In his last start against St. Louis he picked up the victory, throwing seven innings giving up eight hits and two earned runs. He has received wins in two of his last five games, however his team has won eight of their last nine when Latos is on the hill. In his last two home starts he has given up just three earned runs. The Reds are 17-15 overall on the road, and 11-5 in their last 30 games. They are 11-3 overall when Latos is on the mound.
The Pirates send Charlie Morton to the hill tonight. He has one start under his belt this year where he lasted just five innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs against the San Francisco Giants. He was activated from the disabled list last Thursday almost a year after he underwent Tommy John surgery. During his three rehab starts, the Pirates said he look “ok” but that is expected from somebody who just underwent that major of a surgery. The Pirates have won six of their last ten and are 16-16 on the road this season.
I’ll side with the Reds and their high-powered offense against an average pitcher coming off surgery. That is the safe pick here and to take Cincinnati Click Here.
