The season for Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Thad Matta has been an up and down one but yet they still find themselves just one win away from the Final Four. They have been inconsistent at times this season, but have taken care of business in the tournament thus far by beating Loyola-MD, Gonzaga, and Cincinnati. Ohio St. blew a 12 point halftime lead to Cincy in the second half of their last game, but rebounded and came back to win the game. Down the stretch the Buckeyes turned it on and were led by Deshaun Thomas’ 26 points and All-American Jared Sullinger who had a monster game with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Craft and Lenzelle Smith both were solid contributors, scoring in double figures. For the season the Buckeyes are 6-1 in neutral site games and 7-6 against teams ranked in the top 25. The problem for Ohio St. all season has been consistency and after 3 good games in a row can they make it four vs. the Orange?
The Syracuse Orange on the other hand have been the model of consistency all year long despite dealing with of the court issues that could have derailed the team and their season. After beating UNC-Asheville and Kansas St., the Orange faced a stern test from Wisconsin and narrowly escaped with a victory. Scoop Jardine led the Orange with 14, and Dion Waiters had 13 including several key buckets down the stretch. Wisconsin hit an eye-popping 14 three pointers in the loss. Syracuse is 6-1 this season in neutral court games and a perfect 6-0 vs. teams in the top 25. This is the game however where we will see how much the loss of center Fab Melo really hurts the Orange because the strength of the Ohio State team resides inside with the strong play of Jared Sullinger.
The Buckeyes are 5-2 ATS vs. the Big East in their last 7. They are also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games as well. Syracuse, who despite being the #1 seed, is an underdog in this game and are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 as an underdog and just 1-5 in their last 6 ATS.
