The Phillies and the Cubs meet tonight in what will be game one of their weekend series. All odds for all sports are updated live at Just Bet Sportsbook.
This season has not gotten off to the start that the Phillies hoped for as they sit a game below .500 and towards the bottom of the NL East standings. There is plenty of time however to turn it around for this veteran club. As a team they are only hitting .254 and as you might expect their team ERA is stellar at 2.88. Ace Roy Halladay gets the ball today for the Phillies who is actually coming off of a rare loss his last time out. Halladay has only allowed 10 hits in 30 innings and has a 1.50 ERA entering today’s game.
The Chicago Cubs took two of three games from the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this week but aside from that there has been very little to cheer about on Chicago’s North Side. The Cubs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 1-5 on the road this season, and they are in last place and six games out in the N.L. Central. For game on in Philly Chicago starts Paul Maholm who is coming off of his first win of the year. For the season Maholm has allowed 16 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out nine over 14 innings of work for a 8.36 ERA.
Philadelphia is 15-7 in their last 22 games following an off day, 1-4 in their last five against the N.L. Central, and 21-5 in Halladay’s last 26 starts against a team with a losing record. Chicago is 2-5 in their last seven game one of a series, 2-7 in their last none games against a right handed starter, and 0-5 in their last five road games. Chicago is 1-5 in the last six meetings of these two.
We like the Phillies in this one because of the huge pitching advantage. However the odds are so immense that we recommend having it apart of a parlay of some kind with your sportsbook betting.
