Baylor comes into the game as the result of a balanced attack that has seen them already win the Big 12 Tournament, now they are looking for more. They have been impressive in their three NCAA Tournament wins thus far and come into today’s matchup on the heels of a 75-70 win vs. Xavier. Baylor got off to a 16 point lead at halftime and staved off a Xavier comeback in route to the hard fought win. From a stats point of view the game was close as well with Baylor shooting 51% from the field and Xavier a respectable 43%. Xavier’s comeback was led by the fact that they hit 24 free throws in the game, but in the end the big lead that Baylor built up in the first half was too much for them to overcome. Quincy Acy led Baylor with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while point guard Pierre Jackson added 16 points and 10 assists to lead a balanced Baylor attack.
The Wildcats have been holding court up until now and it is certainly no surprise they are in the elite 8 round. Kentucky has ridden a good offense and a suffocating defense to a 35-2 record and 3 wins thus far in the tournament. The Kentucky offense has averaged over 80 points in the tourney thus far and is coming off of a 102-90 win against Indiana in the Sweet 16. They won despite Indiana shooting 52% percent from the field. The difference was at the free throw line where the Wildcats turned 27 IU fouls into a staggering 35 of 37 from the free throw line en route to the win. Five Kentucky players were double digit scorers led by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with 24 points and 10 rebounds and Doron Lamb with 21.
These teams have both gone through spells where they have not been focused, but both should be locked in today with so much on the line. These are two of the most physically talented teams in the tourney, so this should be a heck of a game but take the points with the Bears at the sportsbook.
