Minnesota took down the Cubs last night in extra innings via a late inning comeback. The offense overall was solid and picked up the pitching staff as they belted 16 hits and scored 8 runs in the process. The Twins will look to take control of the series today as they send youngster Scott Diamond to the hill. Diamond is pitching to a microscopic 1.86 ERA this season in 38+ innings of work.
The Cubs are just finding ways to lose games at this point as they dropped another close one last night. Soriano and Castro both hit home runs to lead an offensive attack that had 7 runs on 14 hits. It was the Cubs pitching that struggled last night as it has done all season. They do send Jeff Samardzjia to the hill tonight who is having his best season as a pro thus far pitching to a 3.13 ERA in 69 innings pitched.
Minnesota is 7-2 in their last nine interleague games, 5-1 in their last six interleague games against a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in Diamond’s last six starts. Chicago is 20-43 in their last 63 games overall, 2-5 in their last seven interleague games against a left handed starter, and 7-20 against the A.L. Central.
