The St Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals square off from Washington in game 5 tonight. All odds and trends for this series can be found at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
Just when we thought St Louis had all the momentum in the world behind dominating pitching and explosive hitting, the Cardinals came back to earth in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Washington in game four of the NLDS. In the loss, a great performance from Kyle Lohse went by the wayside with only a single run allowed on two hits and a base on balls while whiffing five through five innings pitched. Lance Lynn absorbed the defeat when Jason Werth homered leading off the ninth. Adam Wainwright takes the ball for the second time in the NLDS. Wainwright was on the mound in the series opener and was solid with a run allowed on six hits and three walks with ten strike outs over 5.2 frames.
It almost seems as if Washington is trailing in the series but their pitching has been strong enough to salvage a pair of games and force a decisive game five. I’m not surprised the Nationals pitching has been the reason this has become a five game series but I am surprised the bats haven’t shown a bit more punch. With the offense stuck in the mud, Ross Detwiler and the receiving corps came through with flying colors. Detwiler gave up a single unearned run on three hits and a trio of walks over six frames before three relievers tossed an inning each with Drew Storen picking up the victory.. Left hander Gio Gonzalez takes the mound in the deciding game five on Friday. Gonzalez was solid in game one with two runs allowed on one hit through five innings although he did walk seven.
We really like the momentum the Nats come into this game with. Look for a strong start from Gio and for the Nats bullpen to hold court. Take the Nats as a moneyline favorite at the sports book.
