St. Louis was victorious yesterday, winning 9-2. Adam Wainwright led the way pitching seven innings and giving up two earned runs, striking out seven. The Reds look to respond with Matt Latos tonight. Latos carries a perfect 5-0 record into tonight’s game to go with a 2.90 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. He’s gotten a no decision in three of his last four games, including his last outing in Pittsburgh where he threw six innings giving up just two hits, one earned run while striking out seven. Three of his five wins have come at home, his last one against Cleveland two starts ago in an 8-2 victory. Latos has gotten plenty of run support, 40 runs combined in his last six starts.
Rookie Tyler Lyons has been everything the Cardinals could have hoped for after calling him up from the minors. In three starts this season he is averaging just shy of seven innings a start, has a 2-1 record with a 2.66 ERA. He won his first two road starts in San Diego and Kansas City, going seven innings in each and earning victories in both. The Reds will be his toughest matchup though as they are third in the national league in runs scored this season. Lyons was roughed up in his last start in San Francisco surrendering eight hits and two walks while giving up four runs. St. Louis has won their last four road games and stand four games in front of Pittsburgh for first place.
Cincinnati is a high-powered offense that Lyons will struggle against. Take the Reds but first read sportsbook reviews.
