The Phillies come back home looking to bounce back from getting swept by the Reds in Cincinnati. The Cardinals travel to Philly after getting beat by the Pirates. Check MLB odds at Bovada sportsbook.
St. Louis (8-6) is having a decent start to the season but were almost no-hit by the Pirates. The Cardinals had just one hit off of AJ Burnett but beat the Pirates earlier in the week. They haven’t been swept yet this season and have won three out of their five series and split a two game series with the Pirates. Matt Carpenter leads the Cards at the plate, batting .296 with 16 hits. Adam Wainwright will start on Thursday against the Phillies and he has won both of his last two starts since losing in his opener against the Diamondbacks.
The Phillies (6-9) are coming off a sweeping by the Reds. Philadelphia dropped all three games to the Reds and the last one was a 11-2 beat down. The first two games of the series were close games and ended up 4-2 and 1-0. The Phillies have a stacked starting rotation on paper but they have not been exceptional thus far. Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee are not off to a terrific start but Lee is 2-0 in his three starts. Hamels will start against the Cardinals and is 0-2 in his three starts.
The Cardinals are 10-4 against the spread and the Phillies are just 5-10.
I like the Phillies in this game. Hamels is an elite pitcher but just has been in a bit of a slump. I think Hamels will have a quality start and lead the Phils to victory at home at best online sportsbooks.
