The Toronto Blue Jays have simply fallen apart this season and they fell to the Mariners on Tuesday. Colby Rasmus and Yunel Escobar each had two hits and Brett Lawrie had a hit as the Blue Jays had eight hits and three runs. Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow wasn’t good enough as he allowed 11 hits and four earned runs while striking out four over 4.2 innings to fall to 8-6 on the year. For Wednesday’s game Toronto starts Ricky Romero whose game has abandoned him. For the season Romero has allowed 169 hits and 106 earned runs while striking out 110 over 163 innings for a 5.85 ERA.
The Seattle Mariners are the best of the last place teams in baseball and they could have a bright future ahead of them. On Tuesday Kyle Seagar had three hits including a home run and Franklin Gutierrez and Dustin Ackley were among those players with two hits as the Mariners scored four runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over seven innings and Tom Wilhelmsen earned his 25th save. For Wednesday’s game Seattle starts Kevin Millwood who won last time out to end a personal four decision losing streak. For the season Millwood has allowed 166 hits and 74 earned runs while striking out 104 over 156 innings of work for a 4.27 ERA.
Toronto is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 1-5 in their last six home games, and 1-12 in Romero’s last 13 starts. Seattle is 5-1 in their last six games against the AL East, 2-4 in their last six games as an underdog, and 0-8 in Millwood’s last eight starts as an underdog. Seattle is 12-32 in their last 44 games in Toronto.
