The number one rated Middleweight in the world Anderson Silva will step into UFC 147 for his title defense with an overall record of 31-4 in his career. Silva has 18 wins on his resume by knockout. Silva has 15 years fighting as a professional and has a 15 fight win streak. Silva last tasted defeat way back in January of 2006 via a disqualification to Yushin Okami. His last legitimate loss came in the Pride promotion on New Year’s Eve 2004 as he submitted to Ryo Chonan in Japan.
Silva in UFC 117 was behind on the cards for most of the fight and was looking at defeat squarely in the face before scoring the dramatic submission victory over Sonnen via a Triangle Armbar in the fifth round with just under two minutes remaining. Had the fight gone the distance Sonnen’s hand would have been raised in victory.
Following UFC 117 Anderson Silva had two fights. At UFC 126 Silva was pitted against the veteran Vitor Belfor and scored a knockout victory in a little over three minutes of the first round back on February 5th of 2011. Six and half months later at UFC 134 Silva fought Yushin Okami in Rio de Janeiro and scored a TKO victory midway through the second round of the fight. Silva was able to erase the disqualification loss to Okami that night with the sudden victory. Silva debuted in UFC back in June of 2006 where he defeated the cagey Chris Leben by knockout just 46 seconds into the fight. Only two of Anderson Silva’s 14 fights for the UFC promotion have gone to the judge’s decision.
Chael Sonnen is ranked as the #2 Middleweight in the world and has a background as a wrestler having competed at the University of Oregon. The 34 year old American has 11 years fighting competitively in the sport of mixed martial arts. Sonnen has a professional record of 27 wins with 11 losses and a draw with 7 wins coming by way of knockout. Following his loss to Anderson Silva Sonnen has put together a two fight win streak. Back on UFC 136 in Houston Texas Sonnen defeated Brian Stann via an arm triangle choke submission. He last fought on January 28th on a UFC on Fox card and defeated Michael Bisping in a Middleweight contenders match to earn his rematch. Sonnen’s last four losses have come by submission. He debuted in the UFC back on October of 2005 at UFC 55 where he was defeated by Renato Sobral as Chael Sonnen was the victim of a Triangle Choke submission.
