The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves face each other again in a crucial NL East battle. Get your MLB odds at Bovada sportsbook.
What do we know about Washington at this point and time? Probably much the same as has been said for months in that the Nationals do much more winning than losing. The Nats have been highly successful because both the work on the mound and at the plate has been outstanding with the added benefit that both units seem to be on the same page quite often. The Washington playoff drive took a break on Saturday following a 5-4 loss to Atlanta which still has the Nationals looking at victories in seven of eleven. Washington sends out lefty Gio Gonzalez this afternoon who goes in search of win number 20. Gonzalez is riding the momentum of wins in six of seven and has given up more than three runs just twice in ten outings.
Atlanta has an outstanding record but have the misfortune of occupying the same division as Washington. The Braves still have a crack at taking over the National League East but need to get and stay hot while hoping Washington has some trouble in the final weeks of the year. The Braves took care of business Saturday with a 5-4 win that was their seventh in ten contests behind just enough hitting and pitching. Left hander Mike Minor will be on the bump in Sundays final game. Minor has had a few hot and cold streaks this season and right now he is enjoying the latter with back to back shutout performances covering 12.2 frames.
We look for Gio to earn his 20th win of the year. We will take the Nats on the moneyline at the sportsbooks.
