The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game 4 of their NLDS series this afternoon. Get the MLB odds at Bovada sportsbook.
The Cardinals defeated the Nationals yesterday in game 3 by score of 8-0 and now lead the best-of-five series 2-1. In the two victories for St. Louis in this series their bats have completely busted the game open early and in both games they absolutely routed Washington’s pitching staff. Another good sign for St. Louis yesterday was the solid pitching of Chris Carpenter who came up big and just his fourth start of the season. In game 4 the Cardinals will have their best pitcher this season on the mound in Kyle Lohse. Although Lohse has been good all season he’s struggled versus the Nats allowing 9 runs in 11 innings of work overall.
If the Nationals should lose this game and thus the series you will hear the criticism start to rain down regarding the sidelining of all world pitcher Stephen Strasburg. To be honest much of that criticism will be warranted especially considering how bad the pitching staff has been battered around in games 2 and 3. In order to save their season the Nationals will send Ross Detwiler to the mound. Detwiler was awful versus the Cardinals and in his only start against them this season allowed seven runs in just two innings of work.
We don’t particularly like either starting pitcher in this spot. There is something about St. Louis however in the postseason and we think they wrap this up in four games and advanced to the NLCS at the sportsbooks.
