The Washington Nationals play the Minnesota Twins in the first of a double header tomorrow afternoon. Scott Diamond gets the call for the Twins while the Nationals will send out Jordan Zimmerman. Get MLB odds at Top Bet sportsbook.
The Twins won the first of the three game set yesterday in 11 innings on a go ahead single up the middle by Ryan Doumit. Joe Mauer hit his 100th career home run and was a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Today they turn to left-hander Scott Diamond who is 4-4 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.43 WHIP to give them their second win in a row. Diamond won in his last appearance going six strong, giving up four hits and a walk but surrendering no runs. However his previous two road starts were not as pretty, pitching 10 1/3 innings giving up 17 hits and seven runs combined. The Twins are 14-17 on the road this year and are 5-8 over their last 13 road games. They currently stand in third place, six games behind the Detroit Tigers for first.
The Nationals have now lost two in a row and four out of their last five overall. Jordan Zimmerman has been solid this year with an 8-3 record, 2.16 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. In Zimmerman’s last start against the Mets he went eight innings giving up four hits and no earned runs. Over his last four home starts he has pitched 31 innings and only given up three earned runs. Five of his eight wins this year have been at Nationals ballpark. As a team, Washington is 16-13 at home this year, 4-4 over their last eight.
Zimmerman’s home production speaks for itself. Assuming the Nationals play all their starters, due to the double header, I’m backing the Nats with sportsbook betting.
