The Washington Nationals head north to take on the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Gio Gonzalez gets the nod for Washington while Cliff Lee will start for the Phillies. Updated MLB odds are available at Top Bet sportsbook.
Washington enters four games back of Atlanta for first place in the NL East. Gio Gonzalez enters with a 6-3 record and 3.14 ERA this season, and has won his last three starts. In his last two starts he has struggled mightily allowing two home runs and five runs over four innings against the Mets on June 5th and five runs on eight hits in Colorado on Tuesday. Gio is 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA in five career starts against Philadelphia. His last two road starts he has surrendered a combined 10 hits and five earned runs. They are 19-20 on the road this season but are currently on a two game winning streak.
The Phillies have lost two in a row, however are climbing up the standings now in third place in the East, only 7.5 back. Cliff Lee is making his 18th start this season and has a 2.73 ERA to go with a 0.99 WHIP. He tossed 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four earned runs in his last start. The Phillies are 21-19 at home this season and have won just three of their last 10 games.
I’ll side with the under in this matchup. Both pitchers have proven to be solid as of late, with ERA’s under 3.30 and neither of these lineups have much power especially with Howard out for Philly and to play the under Click Here
