The Washington Nationals head north to take on the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Dan Haren gets the nod for Washington while John Lannon will start for the Phillies. View the MLB odds at Bovada sportsbook.
Washington enters 6.5 games back of Atlanta for first place in the NL East. Dan Haren enters with a 4-8 record and 5.70 ERA this season, however is 0-5 with a 6.29 ERA over his last six starts. In his last two starts he has struggled mightily allowing three home runs and five runs over four innings against the Mets on June 5th and five runs on eight hits in Colorado on Tuesday. Lannon is 0-3 with a 5.79 ERA in five career starts against Philadelphia. His last two road starts he has surrendered a combined 16 hits and seven earned runs. They are 18-20 on the road this season but are currently on a two game winning streak.
The Phillies have lost two in a row, however are climbing up the standings now in third place in the East, only 8.5 back. John Lannon is making his fourth start this season and has a 6.14 ERA to go with a 1.23 WHIP. He was blown apart in his last start against the Reds lasting just 1 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six earned runs. The Phillies are 16-15 at home this season and have won just three of their last 10 games.
I’ll side with the over in this matchup. Both pitchers have proven struggled this year and these teams have high powered offenses. In a small ballpark the over is the correct play at www.sportsbookroom.com.
