Fifteen out of the last seventeen years, a 12 has beaten a five in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It is already happened on Day 1. Wisconsin sets out to make sure they aren’t next against Ole Miss. View NCAA Tournament odds at Oddsmaker sportsbook.
Wisconsin (23-11) is definitely one of the hottest teams in the country when the season came to a close and look to carry that momentum over to the Tournament. They finished the regular season with big wins over Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio State and Michigan in thrilling fashion. Then, in the conference tournament, they took out two powerhouse squads in Michigan, again, and top-seeded Indiana. In the Big 10 conference tournament, Wisconsin dropped the game to Ohio State who earned a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Wisconsin has been a popular pick to make some noise in this year’s Big Dance.
Ole Miss (26-8) was the third best team in the SEC this year, won the conference tournament and then is rewarded with a wonderful 12-seed. I don’t really agree with their seeding but it is what it is. Marshall Henderson is one of the more talked about players in the country and also one of the more controversial. He can definitely play and has averaged over 20 points per game this season. Ole Miss did lose six conference games this season and then ran the table in the tournament by beating Missouri, Vanderbilt and then Florida in the championship.
Against the spread, Wisconsin is 13-18-1 and Ole Miss is 17-12. Wisconsin is 4-7 ATS against non-conference opponents. Ole Miss is 5-3 in the same situation.
My pick is Wisconsin. I think it will be very close but Wisconsin is too good all around at the sports book.
